From research to application support in industry
Danté Johnson first encountered proteomics during her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Working on method development introduced her to LC-MS proteomics — an area she immediately connected with.
Coming from biology and chemistry labs where older techniques were still common, she was drawn to the fast pace of cutting-edge mass spectrometry. “I wanted to be part of cutting-edge research” she explains. That path eventually led her to Evosep, where she joined straight out of graduate school.
A role with variety and impact
Today, Danté works as a Product Specialist, spending 70-80% of her time on the road supporting customers across the U.S. and Canada. Her focus is on application support, helping researchers integrate Evosep’s technology into their workflows.
“A typical day can be working from my home office or heading to the airport to visit a customer site” she says. What keeps it exciting is the variety – it can be academia one day and in biopharma the next.
She describes her approach to customer visits as bringing authenticity, excitement, and kindness.
The rewarding side of the job
For Danté, the best part of her role is watching customers get excited about the Evosep One. “Even those who weren’t involved in acquiring the instrument often fall in love with it once they see what it can do. It opens new possibilities for them”
Growing with Evosep
Joining Evosep right after graduate school gave Danté a chance to grow personally and professionally. “Being in a customer-facing position has improved my communication, teaching, and networking skills. I’ve also had hands-on experiences with almost every mass spectrometer, which wouldn’t have been possible in another role”
Being a part of Evosep enables her to contribute, shaping and developing cutting-edge mass spectrometry in the proteomics world. This further motivates her to support customers in advancing the technology.
What surprised her most was the culture. “The flexibility, having a remote biotech position in an international biotech company has allowed me to cross the border and engage in more global discussions of mass spec. The Danish culture fosters a great work/life balance, you can spend time with family which might not be celebrated or encouraged in a traditional corporate setting.”
